Should the water outlet from the cooling system run a full stream at all times? It's a 25 HP long shaft. I don't remember the year but it's the last year for the 2 Stroke.

Mine squirts good, I know as the pumps get older they don't pump as good, might want to check and make sure its not stopped up with something.

Hadn't run the motor since September so I hooked the water hose to the shaft, fired the engine & there was no water through the exit. Called the local dealer & he said these late models were hard to flush & suggested I put it in the water. I did so yesterday & upon starting the engine the exit ran a full stream. I motored up river about a mile & floated/fished back to where I put in. I fired the engine to make another pass but there was no water coming from the exit. I did run the engine for some time & noticed only a few drops from time to time. Thus the question above.
BTW I destroyed the last water pump by starting the engine with water frozen in the system. The local dealer installed a new pump this spring. Don't think I have over 20 hours on this one.

Could have picked up something over the water intake, bag, leaves, trash, if the engine did not heat is a good sign, may be the hose where the tell tale is got stopped up. I was told to always let the motor down after loading it on the trailer to let the water drain out of the engine.

I have had a couple Johnson 25 hp outboards. The waterpmp impeller is made out of rubber and will burn out in a nanosecond if it does not get water to it. I have changed the impeller several times and what a pain. Your description sounds exactly like when my impeller burned out. Did you start it without having it hooked up to water even for ten seconds? That is enough to take the ends off of the impeller so that the water pump just sort of works. Good luck. I know how frustrating this can be.

One thing you might want to look at: I've had dirt daubers-those damned black wasps the build little dirt nests in every hole every where, block my intake and the outlet on my Yamaha a couple times. I now keep orange duct tape over both holes and remove when I go fishing. Discovered it first on a fishing trip to Canada, it acted just like yours, it intake sucked the crap into the system and it plugged to outlet after going by the impeller. I removed the outlet hose and ran a pipe cleaner through it and that worked.
