What are your recommendations as far as in-line or offset octopus and circle hooks. What do you find is better for the bait and gets the best hook ups.

I use the octopus style hooks. I mostly fish with small bait (because I'm not good at catching the big ones). I don't find much difference in hook up rate. Seems like with small bait they usually just slam it and hook themselves.
I also don't catch a lot of fish so you can take the above for what it's worth....

I use octopus for boards, floats and light lines and circle hooks for down lines. I was more wondering about in-line hooks vs. off-set

I've always used inline hooks.
Anymore, I just use all purpose O'Shaughnessy hooks and call it good.
When I have troubles I will go to and extra wide gap, short shank chunk bait hook.

I find with small baits the inline circles on 2/0 and 3/0 tend to turn back into the bait, so I use offsets for them, but inline for 4/0s and up.

I use all offset when I use circles - which is mainly on small baits when downlining which typically means ales.
