I put mine together with a long bolt and an empty spool. The big bulk spools are best, when its full of old line throw it away. I will strip as many as six rods at a time with this set up.

Truly I was thinking of doing of the same thing. Kinda like the idea of reusable I reckon. I'll put some WV ingenuity into one, before you know it it will be running off a hit and miss maytag.
