I have been a Lowrance user for decades. That being said I have watched Hummingbird improve at each and every product they make. I rode with a friend last fall and quite honestly I felt his Hummingbird Ds and Ss was as good as my Lowrance. I don't know about their customer service and that could be a major difference.

Over the years, I have used both Lowrance & Humminbird and have been happy with both. As far as I'm concerned they are both very good. My first locator was the old Humminbird "Super Sixty" flasher.
I havn't had any experience with the customer service of either but I have read on many different forums about the lack of good customer service at Lowrance. It seems (according to others) that Lowrance customer service has really gone downhill over the last few years (lack of response to customer concerns). I have read very few complaints from Huminbird users.

Have a buddy that recently purchased a Humminbird. Compared to my experience with my Garmin unit I would say the Humminbird default factory settings need to be tweaked quite a bit. we had to spend quite a bit of time working with his to get it dialed in. Once dialed in though I think the performance is right there with my garming.

I have never purchased a new sonar. All my boats have been used and I just learned to use what's on them. Last boat had a Lowrance on a Carolina skiff and worked fine. The boat I have now has two hummingbirds and I think they are good to. I will post some pics of bait, fish in trees, active fish, jigging, and the old submerged bridge. They all lead to this. Just my opinion.... I have been saving for a side scan unit ... Maybe one day.

I picked up a great deal that I got a riptide trolling motor and a hummingbird helix 9DI. I ended up selling the helix. After seeing it on I turned it off pretty quick because I was afraid I was going to want to put it on the boat. I have the lowrance elite 7ti now. Main reason I didn't switch was because the helix was a DI unit but it did look really good.

That is a real contrast in the belly stripes on those two fish. One is solid and the other broken up. Is that a gender thing? Sort of looks like one ate more.

Straight va broken lines is a characteristic but not a totally determining factor. Hybrids are also shorter / stockier and the head to shoulders shape is different
We only get stripers stocked in SML - wel at least that's all we are supposed to get

I've had several lowrance and they went bad . I've had several hummingbirds and all are still working . I still think hummingbird is a little more easy to use . But that being said you'll find people that feel the exact opposit that I do

Why wouldn't you? I have had three humminbirds and they are excellent units. Honestly, I truly feel like the H-bird shallow water sideimaging range blows lowrance out of the water. Anyone who hasn't owned both, please keep your opinions to yourselves............
Now I have a 12 touch. The on plane readings allow me to find fish at 25-30MPH. That and the fact that it is a touch screen is what pushed me to Lowrance. That being said, my 12 is 2 years old and I am still infatuated with it!!

Fish finders are a form of cheating in my opinion.

Fish finders are a form of cheating in my opinion. Well, for that matter, I guess having a boat is a form of cheating also. Fishfinder/GPS/Mapping is just another tool. It wont catch the fish for you, that's for sure.
