Hello all! So far I have acquired a few of the bits and pieces I need to build a 31cc (weedeater powerhead) boat motor. Over the next few weeks I'll be posting up instructions and videos on the progress of this project. I figure it might help some other folks looking for an affordable / lighter option over a trolling motor, or in my case an alternative to paddling There's quite a few videos and discussions on this topic but none really detail how this is done. I hope when I get this thing up and running some other folks can get some design inspiration. Parts are currently on order. Current parts list *To be updated as I both acquire and or fabricate parts 1) Craftsman 31CC brushcutter engine $16 model number - 358.798230 2) Walbro carb kit $4 PN# D10 WAT 3) Primer bult for D10 WAT (like 2 dollars I think) Anyhow, first order of business will be to get the engine running tip top. Once I know I got the motor running well, Ill go on further. Stay posted, engine probably wont arrive till next week but Ill be updating as I can. Any boat junk yards around here? Or does anyone have a bunch of boat junk I can pick through by chance? To other mechanics on here, please don't throw away any old car or mower pulleys I can really use the bearings out of the center. So others can comment below and for the sake keeping this thread simple I will edit this post as I add updates. Feel free to add useful input.
