One rod/reel to rule them all!

I am visiting SML for a week in August and will be fishing half the time from shore, the other half from a pontoon boat. I currently don't have a rod/reel and am looking to just buy a midrange one for the week. Not too cheap and not crazy expensive as I likely will use it only a few times a year. 

Suggestions?

Stop at a Gander Mtn get a Spinning reel/rod M-MH spooled with 12lb Flourocarbon line. Buy a brand you know or heard of. Reason I say GM they have very cheap warranties in case something breaks!

Also live or dead bait under a bobber or Carolina rigged will catch most any variety of fish.
