Nice fish. What were you using for bait? I see a float in one of you pics.

Yes SML. He weighed 16 pounds and was over 40 inches. How much over I haven't got a clue because I couldn't measure him accurately in the canoe. According to an old timer, there are only 2 musky that live on SML. This one was the smaller cousin to the one you caught.

Nice fish. What were you using for bait? I see a float in one of you pics. I was using fresh shad that came straight out of my new canoe bait tank (as shown below the SYTII). I had 2 mongos on planers and a small money maker on a bobber. The musky seem to attack my smaller shad.

That's hilarious. Couldn't imagine you were fishing with something other than shad. Wondering how you would keep them alive on a canoe. Question answered.

A trolling motor on a canoe, live bait musky fishing, and you caught it on SML.
Congratulations, you've managed to break every musky purist rule there is around these parts.
Seriously though, quite a feat. Were you targeting muskies or just after stripers?

Seriously though, quite a feat. Were you targeting muskies or just after stripers? Please tell me more about these musky purist rules. Seriously, what are they from your perspective? The only thing I know about musky is that one uses bug lures and a figure 8 at the boat. Is live bait not seen as productive? Or.. Is it just cheating? I'm very curious. In terms of live bait fishing from a canoe, I do not recommend it to anyone! Live bait fishing is the hardest thing I have ever done. Doing it from a canoe with planer boards... Well... It's just stupid! The boards themselves act as rudders thus if you use one, you must use 2. You have to deploy them at the same time and if you take your mind off it for 1 second, you are screwed. Catching a fish means turning off your trolling motor and completely disregarding your spread. Oh.. And trust me... Everything else is a real PITA as well. Very inexpensive though!
