Did a little scouting yesterday on the way back home and found some fish a little closer to my in-laws house. Caught bait off the the dock light the night before... 3 throws = dozen nice shad & 8 nice ales + way to many smaller ales. Threw them all in the cage and off to bed.
Fishing started at 5:30ish... had first one in the boat by 6AM (28"). A light line off of a RediRig. Caught #2 on a light line behind a Redneck (25"). Hand 2 other hits & lost 2 others during the fight.
My down lines were the entertainment for the morning. Watching fish rise up to take a look but not bite them. I've only fished in June one other time... I don't recall that happening before... Saw that on the graph at least 3 times this morning. I have to admit, my reaction in the moment was MA-17. Guessing they must have not liked the boat? Had 1 hit on a downline but it shook off after a few cranks.

When I see fish reacting that way to downlines, I cut my leaders down to 12". Often times this results in bites.
