Weather: low 70's rising to upper 70's - mostly sunny, no real wind to speak of
Water: 79, visibility of a few feet
Techniques: Dollar-bill sized gizzards on free-line planer (1) and freeline out back; alewifes on downlines (2), light-line (1), and light-line planers (4)
Cooler Tech: Pack of Nabs, two Diet Coks and 3/4 of a Gatoraid G2 in "red"
Taking Tyler and a bunch of us groomsmen from his upcoming wedding out fishing on Sunday AM, so Nathan and I wanted to get some scouting in before hand to try and figure out where there heck there is more than 1 fish in the lake. So Nathan headed out early this AM to catch bait and we were going to fish a few hours this morning.
He netted some decent ales and a half dozen or so gizzards in fairly short order and I jumped on around 6am after stopping to grab some ice to cool down the bait tank. Greated to a beautiful sunrise - and a tank with bait - my two favorite things 1st thing in the morning
(this was after we had made a dent in the tank with a couple of stops...)
We headed out and flipped a coin as to which way to go - stopped at one spot to do some searching but didn't mark anything so we moved on up to an area Nathan had caught one during an evening earlier this week -marked some fish in there and there were also a couple of other boats in the area and we saw one of them boat a striper so we figured we'd put out some baits - pulled the area for 45 min or so with no action so we pulled in and moved on up some more.
Set out bait and pulled a while - eventually a light-line planer shot off and Nathan was hooked up - with what turned out to be a VERY excited male striper....
After getting that guy to the boat Nathan was letting the board back out with a fresh bait and when he turned around to get another bait from the tank it shot off while it was still playing out - he one-handed grabbed the rod and passed it to me - the fish pulled a good bit of drag and before I could get to the point of reeling on it, the fish popped loose
We had a few more hits along the way but nothing that hooked up - until we saw a small downward tug on a board - and then as I picked up the rod, a splash-show...
Bassmasters Pose! 18.5" small-mouth
We packed it in around 9:15 so I could get back and get to work...... guess I'll be going a different direction on Saturday for Search Mission Part II
