Air temp 58-85
Water temp 69-72.6
Morning was overcast , light breeze a little rain shower 8:30-9:00am clearing to sunny skies by 10:00.
I launched at O dark thirty in search of a lighted dock to cast my net on and found one.
I really should have stopped after one throw, but couldn't help myself and made two.
With a tank full of assorted types and sizes of baits I was ready to hunt down some stripers.
After checking around a bit I marked some fish on the main channel over deep water leading to a flat.
It was just starting to break daylight as I rigged some leaders, started with 4 planers one weighted for a big gizz and 3 free lines.
2 - 3/8 ready rigs and 1- 1/4 light line .
Before l got all my lines out a float rod went off. While I was bringing the first one in a planer rod hooked up. I got the first fish in and the other came off.
There were a few striper busting , but not any great numbers . Made a few casts with no action.
Turned the boat around for another pass hooked up again.
After releasing the fish I could see up into a creek mouth, I saw white flashes of busting stripers in the distance as it got lighter.
So I headed in , as l made the turn the light line drag started buzzing. After that release a light rain started.
There was also a lot of large carp spawning in the area.
After another catch an released fish I noticed one of the other planers on wrong side of the boat so hit the trolling and the next thing I knew it takes off to the front towards the TM . Oh crap!? I pulled the TM up and had to take the propeller off to get the 25 ' of line cut off, meanwhile an audience appears. Cute as can be though. I thought I heard one of those ducklings call me stupid.
After loosing 30 mins. of fishing time I started catching fish again.
Several of the fish I brought in had others following them to the boat. Not sure if they were following to eat spit up shad or trying to spawn.
I ended up with 7 in the boat lost 3. They were all 26-29".
The sun popped out around 9:30 ish and the bite died.
Ran down to the lower lake for an early lunch.
Not a Mike and Tyler meal, but
good enough for me.
Headed to the dam for a pull, marked some fish. Couldn't buy a bite after the sun came out.
All fish came on med. and small ales /blue back.
Nothing touched the big gizz all morning.
Thanks to all the information from this great forum I had a good trip.
