Glad to see there are reports rolling in...nice diversion from the absolutely ridiculous discussion of small craft on the water at night without lights...seriously?
Well Lund2 likes to report when we've had a good day. That's why I'm reporting. I spent several hours bait hunting on Friday afternoon with good success. I don't want to jinx myself but my new Tim Wade 1.25lb 10'er is really pancaking....got a tip from my son about holding on to the lead piece as long as possible and it's ,made a huge difference. Really happy about that. Filled a tank with a few mongo's, dollars, peanuts ( Striperjohns report is still talking to me)....Lund2 rolled in that evening and we added some big ales to the mix and hit the sack to get up at 5.
On the water by first light and lines in by 6AM....chose a mid lake section with good MCP's and flats....planers, floats and flat lines. Random fish were breaking around us ( Lund2 kept scrambling to the bow to throw a spoon, then scrambling back to the boat lines...then running back to the bow...he couldn't make up his mind) we had our first fish in the boat in 10 minutes.....and marked a few small schools on the points................................and that was the highlight of the day.
had a few chases...minor blowups and a couple stolen baits...but we never got on them. Headed way down lake and fished the area around the mountain face....thankfully we never ventured over to the actual Dam area where guys were apparently doing pretty well. Fished over to the area where Gator keeps his stringer, fished back up lake a ways...stopped and caught some really nice gizzard just to break the monotony....we fished pretty hard for 8 hours and had one stripe to show for it.
Humbling....I've been telling myself it's all about good bait....well that's not true. Best bait in the world doesn't help if you don't find the fish.
Lund2 headed home that afternoon...I told myself I would fish the evening bite. My wife made me a cocktail the size of a paint can...and I was all done. Released the bait, washed the boat, watched a movie with my better half....still much better then a good day at work.
