With just getting the boats powerhead back together and only getting to fish this past weekend off of it for the first time i was itching to get back on her. Got off of work at five and headed to the slip to meet my brother. Caught some nice big mongos 14" the cove was full of them. Went down the lake a ways and set out my spread and thers where the rookie mistake happened. Only 5 mins in pull our biggest baits being chased up and bam she gets hit my brother grabs the rod and the board comes back up (the drag was set for cats and wasnt even tight enough to set the hook). My brother looks at me and says REALLY. i just looked down. Lol. After that we had 2 more baits chased but no takers. A great evening with no boats,no wind, and no rain. Found water temp to change alot in just a 500 yard stretch from 68-71 degrees. First of many skunks on the new boat but boy did it feel nice.

I'm with Bentrod on this one. I bury my thumb into the spool while setting a hook and I rarely set my drag real tight. I use my thumb to slow them down istead of using the drag.
