Can't seem to get my bait tank water to clear up. It was fine yesterday and this morning. This afternoon it started to get very cloudy. Cleaned the filters a number of times. Added some more filtration and that did do the trick. Changed out about 60% of the water and cleaned the filters again. Still cloudy. When I'm cleaning the filters they don't seem very dirty. I've seen much them much worse. I've got 8 or 9 big shad and a few dozen bluebacks / big ales in a 40 gallon tank. The bait seems fine just makes me nervous that I could loose a nice tank of bait. Any suggestions? Thanks.

This is a long shot, but if I have too much water in my tank, the water flows over the filter instead of through it... I make sure that the water level on the filter side is well below the bottom of the filter basket so that gravity can do it's thing.

All hope is lost - once it turns, it's not going back with filtration. Those warm water temps this week are probably making it tough to run gizzards and alewives together for more than a day or so before the water goes. My advice is find some fish and feed them the bait!

All depends on what type of filters you have. Charcoal will clean it up no matter the temps but straight polyfil will not. Brian is correct also if you have too much water in filtration area it may not all running through your filter. Also check to ensure your filter standpipe didnt bounce out of your tank input.

When I changed it I went back to normal levels. Hopefully that will do the trick. Normally the scale basket is just barely full. Today it was running about a quarter full. Would adding ice to cool the water help?

Thanks Brian. Got the water level to where it is just spilling out of the stand pipe into the scale basket cleared right up. Didn't know the water level could make that much difference.
