Time..lol
On-off muriatic acid. It's harsh, but takes the scum right off. Wax heavily when you're done.

Starbrite works well.
Also, when I was in FL we had a huge problem with barnacles and other things growing on a painted hull. We use sno-bowl toilet cleaner and that would even take the barnacles off.

Time..lol On-off muriatic acid. It's harsh, but takes the scum right off. Wax heavily when you're done. Well, if it's like Tyler's 7 or 8 months of hanging in the lift with no use of the boat will bleach it right back out.... however that is not a cure that I recommend I'd start with trying a hull cleaner product to see if it helps, but then move to something more aggressive if needed (might not be needed though). On-Off or many toilet bowl cleaners can work. Just make sure you're not using something abrasive. I have had high recommendations provided on a product called Y-10 Fiberglass cleaner..... one of the guys in the Striper Club had a pretty stained hull and he wiped this stuff on, let it sit 10 min or so and wiped/washed it off and the hull looked like new. www.jamestowndistributors.com/userportal/show_product.do?pid=2486

I have used starbrite with good success. On-off can destroy a trailer. Don't ask me how I know this.

Yeah I was gonna say to cover your trailer frame with something if you use on/off on the boat.

That on-off sounds intense. I'm going to look for starbrite and y10. Thanks for the recommendations.

Hey Harley West Marine has a non-skid deck cleaner that works great on Sml mudline. Scub it on with a brush, let it set for 5min and rinse it off.

Prime, i have used a non-abrasive gel bleach type toilet cleaner and soft brush on my boats in the past. Scrub a little and let it set a minute or two and rinse good. The boats i used it on had no decals at the water line, so be careful around those if you use it.
****Whoops sorry Gator , I didn't see where you already suggested using this.

Also - there was a comment above about re-waxing the hull. I've always read and been told that you want to wax the sides of the hull, but not the bottom where it is in contact with the water as the wax will actually cause more drag with the water and lower performance / fuel efficiency, etc

Hmm no idea where you heard that mward. Check out one of the old tests Dennis Conner did on Americas Cup sailboats, his tests showed a 4-6 knot improvement when hull and skeg were heavily polished. I'll see if I can remember where I read that and get it posted. Actually he used a teflon based polish.

I guess I stand corrected - though was told by multiple boat dealers, detailers (though they may have a vested intrest in NOT waxing the bottom due to the hassle), various readings / recommendations on The Hull Truth, etc.... but you know what they say about having read it on the Internet Of course a telfon polish is a bit different than a carnuba-based wax as well.....

Actually I think you are correct. If the water beads on the surface, as does a waxed surface, it is basically a friction result. Whereas the teflon based polish does not bead, the water streaks off of it, thus less friction. Weird at best. Lol! Wax to protect your gelcoat, polish or wetsand for speed.
