Got over Thursday afternoon. Caught a Mongo on my first throw and thought finally I've figured this out. After another hour and a half and 20 throws picked up a 6 more on one throw. Threw for another hour and decided to call it and rely on my light. Nothing on my light Friday morning. Explored a few more lights and loaded up with about two dozen large ales or bluebacks. Not sure which but they were all +9".
Fished a combo of main points and a creek. Both seemed about the same. I would go thru stretches of nothing then periods where all of my baits would be nervous and or chased up at the same time. My wife and son were over so only fished until about 1. Ended up with 4. Nothing over 29". Two off boards 2 off a light line. Missed 4 on big baited boards. Not being patient enough with the big baits I think.
Took Saturday morning off to hang with the fam and sleep in after a late night of basketball games. Went out with wife and son to catch more bait Saturday afternoon. Picked up one mongo and a few smaller baits.
Out on the water at 4:30 Sunday morning picking up a few more big ales. Fishing by 6:45. Fished a creek. Had a lot of nervous bait and missed a tentative pull back on a board. Then nothing. Moved out to the main channel. First point I pulled up on had everything go nervous. Picked up two on a light line and had my biggest bait get chased, swirled at and smacked out of the water for about 5 min. Then fish lost interest. Fished for about two more hours no more action to speak of.
Got my son to go out Monday morning. Still had some nice baits in the tank. Told him we'd pull in and out of a close creek, if no action we'd go in. Pulled into the first point on the creek and had two baits chased immediately. Didn't hit, kept pulling. That was it for nervous baits in that creek. Did have one more nervous bait right by the main channel on the way out. Called it a weekend and went back to clean a very dirt boat.
My problem is not having enough bait to move around as much as I'd like or put out the spread I'd like. Only starting out with 7 or 8 good baits I'll only put out bank side boards. That limits you on swinging around on hot spots. I'd like to move more as well but it seems like you can only put those baits in and out one or two times without them looking very sad.
This ain't easy. I guess that's what makes it fun.
