I run the line to the rod from right to left (your pic) thru the eye of hook. Lay it alongside the hook making a loop at the hook curvature, take that same end and wrap around itself 7+times then back thru loop wet and pull both ends tight. Catsnstripers has a great utube vid showing how to tie it.

I think you've got it right - I think with small test line and larger hooks (and eyes) it results it it feeling "loose" - with 15 lb test in 1/0 or 2/0 Octopus circle hooks and 20-25 lb test in 5/0-7/0 I have not issues

Im not sure the line coming through the loop goes to the rod. At least thats the way it looks to me on your example. Just my eyes I guess.

Do you start with the hook facing towards yourself or away? Meaning does the first pass through the eye go towards the curve of the hook or away?

You got it right.
It'll come undone easy the opposite direction of a tight line - that's normal. I've never had one unravel though. I only use it on an octopus hook though - straight shank or treble and I use improved clinch.

The "tag line" goes through the eye from the "top" side of the hook, towards the bend. Then you wrap it with the other end and go back out through the eye. The downside of this is you have to have both ends of the line - but if you're going to tie to a swivel then it's no big deal
