After registering for the tournament Friday evening, Jason and I went on a bait hunt. Here is part of the catch.
Its a blast to see these in your net. We were throwing some of the smaller ones back calling each other bait snobs!
About midnight or so we went back to the dock to prepare for the tournament.
After sleeping in the car, got up for more preparation. Got the code and took off to catch fish!
After arrival, I launched the TM. The power meter was RED! Uh Oh! Called Jason, he had a couple batteries I could use. Went back to the dock to install the batteries and took off to begin the tournament. About 45 minutes later I landed my first fish. 27 inches! I was excited!
I guess it was mid day and the tm batteries gave out on me. Jason told me he had one battery left and I didn't want to take that one so i pulled bait with the big motor for a while. Jason called and told me to come get the battery. Before the call I was about ready to quit. I figured my day was over. I went back down river to find Jason and his team. He pulled all of his bait up and jumped over in my boat to help me change the batteries out. Man, I was so thankful. I told him he could claim me as his dependent for 2015 taxes.
Afterwards I went back to pulling super Mongos! BAM! the planer was hit hard and went out of sight. I picked up the rod for a couple of seconds and lost him. After reeling the line in I noticed that the knot had broke. I put that rod up and got one Jason rigged up for me. I thought to myself, his knot will not break!!
It was less than five minutes later BAM! Outside board went down on the rod I just put out. The drag was singing! I was holding on! I looked down at the counter and it was at 135(i reset them before deploying planers). It seemed like about a 10 minute fight. After getting tangled up in the inside board and my motor, HaHa He was on my boat! He was tired and I was tired too, No joke, I was huffing and puffing. Man that was exciting! It was as fun as catching the big ones at the bay and I honestly mean that.
After catching my breath I thought his brother is in here and Im after him. Well, I got the urge (did I make you read the post Gator)?! I was not in front of a house so I unbuttoned my rain coat. UhOh!! There went my TM remote in the water to sink quickly. Now my day is over with the biggest fish I ever caught at SML. I was still happy about my catch.
I came in 4th place of the tournament! I was really excited then. My plaque sits on my night stand next to a fish trophy my kids bought for me at Good Will a couple of years ago. My girls bought the trophy for me because I never and I mean never caught anything when I went fishing and they felt sorry for me. The plaque represents the forum answering questions and sharing their wisdom with me. It also represents Jason spending his time and being patient with me while mentoring me. I am so thankful!!
I gave my wife the money because of all I have spent for my passion of the fishery. She got a new hair do, eyebrows waxed, and her lip waxed!!
WT - 57-58
water was stained
raining
overcast and the sun came out about 2pm
used super sized Mongos
1.0 mph trolling pbs on bank side
Yesterday I rewired my tm dedicating two batteries just for tm. I am working to determine if I have a problem with my onboard charger as well.
