Tyler and I have been kicking this around for some time and decided that the April tournament is where we wanted to honor Danny Foster for what he meant to many here on the Forum, but also on the lake. Many of you will recall Danny passed away last year on April 15th. Danny was a long-time member of the forum here and in its previous incarnations, a long time member of the USCG-AUX and loved all things about the lake. My first encounters with Danny where virtual, on the forum, but then when he came over to do my boat safety inspection. I'll always remember Danny for always being "just about to get his boat back on the water" to chase stripers - but he would always, and I mean always, have encouraging words for everyone that posted on here with reports - and was always welcoming of "the new guy" on the forums.
I've talked with Danny's wife, Janice about our desire to honor Danny in this way and she is very supportive of it. What we've decided to do is to hold the April Striper Mafia Spring Fling event in Danny's honor, and use it as a venue to raise money for a organization that she and her children fell he would like to see something like this go to..... the Stewartsville - Chamblesburg Fire Department.
Tyler and I will be donating the 10% of entry fees which are normally used to help cover tournament expenses - the more teams we have in the event, the larger this donation will become. We will also be selling raffle tickets for two, 2' HydroGlow LED bait-lights with all proceeds from this raffle going to . Tickets will be available at the Captain's Meeting, the tournament check-in and I'm working to figure out how we could make them available here as well - look for more details on this soon.
SeaTow has a close connection to Danny, as Danny had just completed getting his Captain's License before he passed away, with the intention of working for Sea Tow. Rick & Nancy will be on-hand at the check-in and cooking Hot-Dogs for the group.
We're working on a few other things to see if we can help raise the overall level of donations that this will generate - and of course we will welcome cash donations to the cause.
The remainder of the tournament will hold the same with respect to pay-outs & the optional Big-Fish competition, the Youth Competition, raffle prizes, etc.
April 9th is only three weeks away - so I hope you can plan to participate - and perhaps some of you that have not been involved thus far will find this a reason to participate - in memory of Danny - or at least come by and join us at the tournament check-in and awards when we celebrate Danny. We will have a maximum of 50 teams for this event.
