Do you guys use salt & shad crack/shad keeper? Or just one or the other?

I just use salt most of the year... But, during July and August I will use salt and shad keeper... If I have a crowded tank or, it is hot out. Water changes seem to help the most.
But, I'm no expert..

Salt always no matter the temperature, keeps the shad and alewives healthier. Any type of shad keeper, shad crack etc is a waste of your money if you have a good bait tank filtration system. I can put that shad keeper in my tank, water turns green with it, and about an hour later water is back to clear, filtered it all out.

Shad keeper turns mine green also, shad crack makes it smell weird. One of the reasons I was asking just didn't seem right with the salt also? A little spritz of defoamer seems to perk them up!

You don't need to add salt when using ShadCrack - it has the salt, but other goodness as well. The "weird smell" I believe, but not confirmed, is clove extract. There are some other things in it has well to help the bait. The defoamer should not really perk up the bait... unless it just seems like it because you can't see them The Shad Keeper clearly has green dye. Better Bait has blue. Other stuff in those as well. Shad Keeper is mostly salt, but there is something in there that seems to make the bait hyper.
