Got over to the lake Friday evening. Put out my dock light in case I wanted to live bait fish Saturday. Decided to cast to points and jig. Went out in the morning and cast to points. No luck. It was different than fishing points with my bass boat but really liked it once I got used to it. It was nice to use the spot anchor to cast points then to move down banks real slow with the auto pilot.
Tried to jig in the afternoon, also took out a net and the pump for my bait tank in case I decided to try for bait. Jigged for a long while over piles of fish I'd see here and there. No luck. It got me thinking I don't know what I'm seeing on my sonar, but I'm 99% sure it was fish but they didn't want to eat.
Got a chance to meet a fellow board member - Lund1. Turns out we have the same boat. Nice guy. Good to put a face with a name. Pointed me in the direction of some bait so I thought I'd see if I could put some in my tank for Sunday since it was supposed to warm up.
Started throwing my new 10' 1" Tim Wade on bait that was holding in about 15 feet in 30 feet of water. Was making good throws but not getting anything. Figured they were peanuts, wanted to catch something to pull so I pulled out a 10' 3/8" cracker. First throw got 4 big baits. Measured them they were 10" to 12" not sure if that's mongo status but they were nice baits. Filled up my tank with really muddy water then realized I'd left my filter stack at the dock. Continued throwing bringing in about 3 dozen more ranging from peanuts to 11". I would have stayed until dark but thought I was pushing my luck with no filtration. Got back to my dock, put the filter stack in and changed out as much water as I could, but the water at my dock was as muddy as I've ever seen it (however it was much better than the water I'd gotten out of the creek). Changed out the water again before bed but the tank really never got clear.
Up the next morning to try to pull creeks. Water didn't clear up very much over night. I've been using the filter that came with the tank, afraid to use the stuffing type filter. Probably should have. Put my baits out they didn't look great. Noses were bright red. Pulled for about 4 hours, big baits got nervous on almost every point I came up on but never got chased to the top.
Went back out late afternoon to see if the warmer weather would turn it on. Less nervous baits on the points but my big bait on the deep side of the boat was pretty nervous all afternoon.
To make a long story short. SKUNK for the whole weekend. Positives - caught big bait. Learned a lesson about filtration.
