Not sure if it's time to start a new thread or not but since I'm still a new guy with question here it goes. I was reading in the how to section "Jigging 101" and was trying to see the tackle set up for a proper jigging rod. It mentioned the rod and line type but I didn't see any mention of reel type. I am assuming that a depth counter would be beneficial since you would be targeting a specific depth. I have been looking at the Okuma Coldwater low profile and the ABU 6500 both come with line counters I have enough Cabela bucks point that I could get either one. Just looking for advice in general, what do you use and if one is better than the other based on previous experience with either of those reels. Gonna try to make it to the Striper Club meeting this Friday as well. Thanks in advance for any help.

I don't use a LC reel for jigging I use my sonar to see the jig. I have 2 of the 6500lc that are use for urigs and they work great in the summer. Not so great when it's below 40. Below 40 and the line counters don't want to work.
My jigging reel is a Shimano Calcutta 100 with 20 pound braid on a Duckett ml with a fast tip. It's a light set up and I can jig all day with it.

(moved these over into a new thread here)
I like having some smaller line counters for jigging especially with multiple folk son the boat - can tell them to drop to X feet. When doing it by myself I'll just jig in the sonar cone with a bait caster or spinning reel
The Okuma Cold Water reels are nice. My LC jigging setups are LC5500 - smaller than the 6500 - more palmable - nice size

Jigging into the sonar cone makes perfect sense and is so simple at the same time. It would eliminate the need for yet another rod setup. I've got so many rods and reels now I could start my own tackle shop. Sometimes the simplest solutions are best.
