i am thinking about fishing the new river this spring for some big smallies. i will be fishing in a 16 ft boat with a 45 jet . looking for some input on running the river with a jet boat. it appears to me that the best place for big smallies is buck dam to allisonia. any thoughts, comments, experience ? thanks

In that stretch the area around and including Foster Falls is going to be a pretty consistent producer for fish 15" and larger. I wouldnt overlook areas below Claytor either though, the stretch that runs through the Arsenal in Radford has yielded goid smallie action. Cant help with jetboat input as I fish out of a kayak. I can say that in my experience you might hit upon a small pocket in a long stretch that will be home to better quality fish consistently and just about every stretch between ramps has a spot that will give up those 3-5lb fish.

If it gets slow make sure to bring some 4" senkos, green pumpkin, baby bass, black or white, and throw em weightless. Thatll provide ya with plenty of action on smaller fish. Tight lines
