Thinking about fishing the Striper Mafia - March Madness - March Tournament our April tournament but not quite clear on how the Catch-Photo-Release (CPR) format works - or what "issues" might come along with it? Well, let us clear up a few common questions....
1) All fish are submitted via photograph only at the post-tournament check-in. Pictures can be taken on a Smartphone & emailed or digital camera and download off the memory card at post-tourney check-in. Fish are to be caught, measured/photo'ed & released at the boat unless you choose to legally harvest the fish. There is a DGIF-enforced slot-limit in place on SML during the timeframe in which the tournaments are held - no fish 30"-40" may be harvested (or held aboard the boat).
2) All fish photos are taken on a Tournament provided measuring board, oriented in a common way (mouth against bump board, dorsal fin facing "up' - and a tournament provided token card must be clearly visible in the picture. This prevents the same fish being submitted multiple times due to distinguishing marks on the fish.
3) No fish caught before Lines-In are to be submitted. The Token Code is released approx 10-15 min before Lines In via Text Message, E-Mail & posting to Facebook & the Website. Participants will have a grease pencil to write the Team Name & Token Code on the card.
4) Attendance at the Captain's Meeting the evening before is required to submit entry fees, turn in release forms & collect measuring board & token cards. This allows participants to stage themselves anywhere on the lake prior to Lines-In - thus leveling the playing field for those fishing from smaller or slower craft.
5) Fish are measured to the quarter inch - rounding down. Placing is determined by best total length of 2 fish. Tie-breakers are performed as described in the Rules document (time of submission, etc). All participants are required to return to the Check-in location post tournament to return their measuring device & token card.
6) We expect the highest ethics from ourselves and our participants. We reserve the right to conduct polygraphs on any participants in the event.
CPR based events have been conducted in many venues across various fisheries for quite some time with high levels of success. We believe it is a format which is a win-win for anglers, our sponsors and most importantly our fishery - and with the slot-limit on SML, a CPR format is the only format which facilitates a competitive tournament that includes submission of larger catches during the time of the year which we can successfully release our target species.
