I guess I am one getting the free stuff so to speak, I do get some of the few benefits that we weren't to well off to receive when Jerry got sick we only got free medical care after we had 13,000 in bills. I assure u as one who gets free medical care now, Medicaid (only thru Jan) I appreciate all who make it possible. BUT! I also feel as one who gets free stuff ashamed since so many think this way. We paid in quite a bit to the system for many, many yrs to help those down on their luck and getting free stuff..both of us worked hard and gave much to the system thru the yrs. and it wasn't our choice to get in the situation that we needed free stuff, just like many others who get free stuff due to LIFE's Circumstances....it's embarrassing to many who get the free stuff because so many look down on us. So please accept my THANK U

I am so sorry for posting that. Honestly, I meant the ones that are to lazy ( or strung out ) to work and the ones who abuse the system just to ge a check, all the tax payer money given to companies for purely political purposes, and on and on. We live in a country that has a heart as big as heaven and mine is breaking thinking that what I posted made you feel that way. I am all for helping those that are in need, I feel that it is our duty as people to help one another. Again, I am so sorry, please accept my humble apology.

This is the reason why you shouldn't take the post personal Kat. If folks like ya'll who needed help due to life's circumstances were the only ones getting help there would be plenty to go around. I don't know anyone who would say someone in your circumstances shouldn't get help or look down on you for it.
The wife and I were in the local social services offices taking to a lady about my wifes elderly father. While waiting I'd say 75% of the people going to the window fussing were under 25, appeared healthy as a horse and had kids hanging all off of them. That in my opinion is life choices and not so much circumstances. The SS lady told us straight they are getting plenty of claims from illegals that cannot receive benefits themselves but as soon as they have a child in the US that child goes straight into the system and is qualified for all kinds of things, the more kids they have the more benefits and the parents end up making it a way of life. Remember this started with illegals who snuck into the US.
I can see where it would embarrass you, it would any of us worth our salt. To me that shows character and proves that you would rather it wasn't this way. I'm sure everyone here knows or has known someone who "milks" the system not out of need but out of convenience and doesn't give a second thought to it. The system is a screwed up mess, those who need have so much trouble jumping through hoops to get a little help then there are those that seem to get everything under the sun and live better than we do.
I can name one after another after another who intentionally use the system as a choice, not because life has thrown them a curve ball. Remember the trouble, red tape, hoops and waits you had to go through? This should not be the case for folks in need, all this crap was put in place to help weed out the "users" but it has failed, the users have learned what the gov needs to see on the paperwork to make it go through and the honest folks like you and Jerry catch a bunch of crap trying to do it straight up and by the book. You too should be pissed at these types because it's them, their reputations, their dishonesty and down right selfish attitudes that has created the stereotype alot of us think of when we see someone paying with food stamps etc....
The bottom line is I'm sure Bigun meant nothing at all towards those in need but anyone that says there aren't a pile out there gigging the system that shouldn't be are kidding themselves.

Kat your "think you" is accepted!
For the people that actually need it I don't mind helping! My family has a long line of muscular dystrophy, and a lot of them can't walk. Very sad that it takes forever for them to get on disability. Plain and simple some people need it and some don't! Very well said by bigjon "life choices"
Handicap parking= watching people walking when they get out and parking in a handicap spot, and it's people that can't walk! They gotta have personal vans with lifts to get in and out.
I seen a post a while back about going threw the drive threw at a fast food place and dropping money to the teller to pay for the persons meal behind them! More of this is what we need, not the big government over everything like we have now!
For the love of money is the root to all evil! (Even myself is guilty of this one! = fail)
The kid fishing yesterday (11/4) J.D. Is a foster child. I try to help when I can!

I absolutely 10000% respect your right to have and share your opinion. In my opinion, the best thing that can happen is for reasonable people of different opinions to hear one another though they may never agree. I believe a person can be reasonable and respect everyone else's right to have and share their opinion, no matter how much it differs from their own. Afloat, Just wanted you to know this has stuck in my head. I broke the golden rule....when you are debating someone, never stoop to personal attacks.....always remember you are debating a persons point of view, not that person. We may have different beliefs, but basically we are all the same. For this, I apoligize......

Hey Bigun,
I know I didn't really say it but I'd considered this exchange resolved when I re-read your last pm several weeks ago more carefully.
For all the good it is, election season can bring out the worst in everyone, myself included.
What you probably won't believe, is that at the meet-n-greet, this otherwise polite, considerate and generous individual called me "one opinionated s. o. b."!! What is the world coming to?

Asleepafloat, I don't hand out compliments like that to just anyone ya know! I assure you I have called Superstriper and 391V much worse than that today and that was just in their "Happy Friday" text. This world needs more opinionated s.o.b's. And just to keep from hurting Bigun's feelings he is one old opinionated s.o.b! ;D

The irony with politics is that regardless of whether you are liberal / democrat or conservative / republican.......the one fundamental thing both sides have in common is they want to tell everyone else how to live. Of course they differ on the issues, but both sides take positions on what we should and shouldn't be able to do. I guess that's why I find myself more and more leaning towards libertarianism. As long as what I do doesn't harm anyone, doesn't impact anyone negatively, I don't figure it's anybody's dang business how I live my life.
