Got up to the lake about 6:30, from there went on the hunt for some bird activity. Within safe light found some pounding the water, by 7:30 had the first one in the boat. Chased some more and decided to go find our own group of birds. It paid off, by 2 o'clock had over a dozen caught and released. Water temp. was hovering around 50 degrees. My question is at what temperature does the bird bite stop? Saw alot of other boats out there catching as well. It was a good day on the water.

I fished with ncsportfisher Sat and it was a fun day. We caught almost all our fish on 1/4 oz jig heads with white or off white flukes. Most came casting but a few jigging. We lost several fish due to light leaders-we were using 12 lb flouro. Finally upped it to 20 lb after having a few snap us off. We used 2500 to 3000 size spinning reels(our saltwater trout rods) and those fish are a blast on light tackle. We did have one big bait that we would put out when we were in the fish and he never got touched. As ncsportfisher said, we found some birds in a less crowed area and it was really just us and one other boat. The fish stayed in the area for a few hours. They don't go far, especially when there are not as many boats fishing them and running the big motors.

So true.... it was like July in Beckys & Bettys were we were at one point on Saturday.... could have handed coffee back and forth between the boats. Heck, if I'd know I would have cooked up a batch of sausage biscuits and sold coffee & biscuits out of the boat

Mike, if had known the biscuits and coffee were available, I would have slid by for some take out! We were in that crowd for a little while and decided to try and find some fish/birds in a less crowded area. Worked out this time.
