I fished up by Bay Roc yesterday. There are lots of shad and some the the schools seem to go on forever. We caught one small striper, had one striper break a line, and had quite a few take the bait but not get hooked. We were using down-lines and the size of the bait did not seem to matter.
The hardy ramp is hard to get out of. The water at the bottom of the ramp is three feet but the water falls to less than one foot as you head out to the river. Have to go out with your outboard really in the up position but making sure the water pump is sucking water (mud).

Thanks for the report Striperseeker.... its always amazing to see those acres of little shad flipping on the flat this time of year - and more amazing that a fish will actually choose to bite the one in a couple of million that's on your line....

Good report Striperseeker!
Mward, the reason they bite yours is that when the school scatters from the fish, there is your bait stuck on a hook! Game over.
