Went down to take advantage of the move weather.
Saturday 12/12
Air temp 55-72
Water temps 55-60
Sunny. Light wind if any at all.
Man, I thought with the water getting up to 60, it would be on like Donkey Kong. Boy was I wrong. I thought for sure we would see some feeding action, but nothing. Fished a couple points and docks around the mouth of Gills Creek. Had one short strike on a fluke and fish head spin. Three the tackle box at them. Went on up to Standiford Creek. We caught 3 dinks in about 1-3' of water around docks. 1 on a senko wacky rigged, 2 pitching a creature bait with a 3/8 oz tungsten weight all around docks. Then went up fished some main lake laydowns up Black Water side....nothing. Went out to beach island, Witcher Creek and Cedar Creek and nothing. Called it a day.
12/13
Pretty much same conditions. Water ot got to 56 before we left. Only fished until 11 AM. Started in a creek near Gills Creek, bait every where flipping on top. Threw in the schools of bait, could feel lure banging off bait fish. No takers. Drove through schools and no big fish under or near them. Headed up Gills Creek. Marked several good schools of bait with a little feeding going on. Marked a good school of stripers. Was working a Shad color Rapala XRap XR10. Got it right beside the boat, ready to pull it up to cast again. But before I did, I stopped to say something to my buddy. When I looked down, a 6.5 lb striper came up and inhaled the jerk bait as it sat motionless suspending about a foot deep in the water. Put up a good little fight biting that close to the boat on a light spinning rod with 6 lb flouro. Landed him. Buddy picked up another dink on a senko and we headed back to WV. We did get to see a guy do a couple cannon balls off his dock at 8 AM and proceed to climb up on the dock and do the Nay Nay. He was making a video for something. Pretty entertaining. I think maybe we should be fished a little deeper, but with 60 degree temps, I thought they'd be up shallow feeding. Great weekend on the water enjoying the spring like weather.
