Got to SML last night and made repairs to one of nets (not sure why?) and got things ready for morning. Adrenaline was going so I thought I would head out and cast on some points. Only ended up with a LM around 9pm on a 1/2oz fluke. Fri. morning I headed out around daylight with all intentions of catching bait. Spent about half the day and nothing. Just not able to catch anything in water over 10'. Watched Travis roll in and make about a dozen tosses with ease and left. So out came my old stand by (U-rig), I slung out the back of the boat. Ended up catching 6 fish, all released. They were in the teenager variety with a couple low 20s. Coming off points in 18 FOW, main channel. WTs 56-58. Water at times was actually warmer in main than backs. ATs. Wonderful!!

is there a difference between an A rig and a U rig, if so could someone post a pic for this semi newbe Generally it's size.... U-rigs (Umbrella) are larger / heavier - typically 1.5-3 oz frames and pulling 7-9 or more baits (swimbaits, bucktails with trailers, etc). A-Rigs were popularized in the bass fishing world - light-weight frames with maybe 1/4 - 1/2 or heads on the frames and using 3-5 swimbaits - typically with 1/8 - 1/4 oz heads. Alabama rigs are generally castable - umbrella rigs, not so much Pre-rigged "Capt. Macks" U-rig Alabama style rig

Mike you should have hollered. Always generous with offering bait...
To be honest. I have no clue who people are when they call me by name. Haha

I was throwing an 8' 1/2"mesh 1.2lbs/ft. net.
Suggestions? I don't think shoulder could handle much more than that net.

Your net is good for ales on lights, peanuts in less than 15 fow and bigger bait around docks and in 10 fow or less. If 8 foot and 1.2 is your heaviest, then you might try a 10 foot at 1 lb. This will provide more depth coverage if you can spread it. If bigger bait is your target, then I would move up to 1 inch.

Yam that's exactly what I have figured out. And I will consider your options. I would like to use bigger bait in the fall.
