HI Everyone -- I am just learning the basics of striper fishing, and to say the least I am very impressed with the information and sharing here. Since I don't have a bait tank (and truthfully don't know what a mongo? is??) I was wondering if anyone could help me on catching fish on artificials? What would be the best tactic for the next month?
I was thinking maybe casting alabama rigs on points? or maybe back of creeks?
Thanks for the help and best of luck to 'all y'all --

Buck tails and flukes with 3/8 lead heads. Should start to get good soon. December was my best month by far on artificial. Caught a bunch of striper and two citation largemouth as icing on the cake. I used to only fish LM and converted to striper when I mistook citation LM for small stripers as I was reeling them in.

Those A rigs will work great if you like throwing them. You can also troll them as well to stay in the action while doing other things. Personally, I prefer spoons and thundersticks. The A-Rigs, although very effective, seem too mechanical for me. A spoon on braid is more personal or something like that.

Fishing has been good with flukes casting banks and breaking fish.

Thanks guys for some insight.
Sounds like a good month is ahead.
One question -- if throwing a fluke, do you always put it on a jig head? or sometimes fish without weight like it is done for bass?
Thanks!

I don't think you could fish it deep enough w/o jig head. Just cast it out, let it sink for 3 or 4 seconds, slow roll it back (you don't pop it like you would unweighted) and hold on. There is nothing like feeling a 15lb hit and then fight it in on bass tackle. Fish the banks, spend a little more time on points.

Get you a couple of Rapala F18 lures as well . They dive 6-11 ft and work great. Also look up swamp monkey lures on Facebook . They are custom made around here and super nice. They are very reasonably priced and productive with the flukes.
