First and foremost, whether there was a tournament or NOT … I would of been fishing in November and December 10 days total on the SML. The Big Gizzard bite seems so far away in July but now it is here!!!!!
Arrived Thursday with partner - Blake (only second time on the SML)- Scouted and traveled the lake in the beautiful 70 degree weather !! Cleaned bait tank around 2pm on Friday and prepared to hunt down 25 big baits for the Saturday. Left the hotel around 350 am took 1 hour to make it to moormans (due to the minefield of debris in the dark), found a few more Mongo's until lines in @ 615am
First spot was the best total of 8 fish biggest -- 33 inch and 35 inch - Left that area as we had our first boat approach.
We went and worked the cast net for about 1/2 hour trying to put some fresh bait in the tank due to a very active first location.
Started cruising for banks or cliffs that were not covered by debris or leaves -- almost impossible, however I would only put 1 board out even if it was for 40 yards as long as I could get a clean pull of the spot --- did that 7 times -- each pull for as short as 5 minutes and as long as 25 -
When the front moved through the wind opened up a couple of places that were covered by leaves and debris BUT now we could put a board right in the sweet spot.
Those pulls produced the 2 big fish -- 35.25 and 35.5 -- one was before wind and rain started and the second after.
I enjoyed meeting many of the boys from the forum and I look forward to my next adventure on the WONDERFUL SML!!!!!
Thank you to the Mafia crew for putting on a great event!!!!
Live Bait JunkEEE out!!!

Congratulations again. Sounds like the hard effort of staying out of leaves really paid off ($$$) haha.
