Ok here is what i have wanting to see if someone has some insight. Took a gen3 hds 9 and networked it with a hds8 gen1. Using the gen3 for the source of transducers. When using side scan or structure scan the hds8 has a better picture or beter resolution. Why would this be? both units are set for fresh water, contrast on both are set at 72% but the gen1 has more detail. Any help on why

Im glad someone else is seeing the same thing as me. I would have thought the gen3 would be outstanding. As i was looking at pics posted by others i noticed the range more range less screen that the gen ones had. I was not happy with the results of the gen3 so i purchased the ethernet cable and behold a more vibrant pic. So is ther something im missing a secret of some sort please tell...

Pics would help to see what you're seeing..... But
on the non touch units - the hds 8 and 10 had the same resolution (I think 640x480 but would have to look it up). But since they are different screen sizes it means you have bigger pixels on the 10 vs 8 - so the 8 looks "crisper" due to the smaller pixels that are less blocky in comparison. I think on the touch it has the same vertical resolution as the the Gen 1 and 2 - so like you see the same difference in "crispness"

Ok that got me pointed in the direction i was looking for maybe. Gen1 hds8 has 800x600 pixel the gen3 hds9 has 800x480 pixel. So im guessing the higher pixel added with the smaller screen is given the impression of a crisper better resolution.

wow - I did not realize the HDS9 had dropped in overall pixel density - that like 20% less vertical resolution which is important for downscan and sonar... which means the HDS9 is a lesses display than the HDS8
Now, with the HDS10 vs 12 - its 800wide x 600high on the 10, but 1280wide x 800high on the HDS12 - so the HDS12 is a better display than then 10....

What happened to the good old days when a fisherman used a flasher to tell the depth, this thread sounds like the conversation I had with the guy at Best Buy when I bought my last tv. Lol
