I bought a green underwater light and use it in conjunction with my white 75 watt household bulb. Either it helps or the weather helps, I can't tell. It was all alewives or greenbacks this morning, I can't tell that either. For food I had salted peanuts in the shell and hot chocolate.
I rowed out just before daybreak. A planer board went off fairly soon, inside the cove. It was too dark to know, so I thought I had a good striper, but it turned out to be a 9.5 lb channel cat. Nice fish though. Tangled a couple lines that I got to sort out with a head lamp. Then I got 2 smallish (2-4 lb) stripers that I released. Then the rain set in pretty good and I had to bail the rowboat to keep my feet dry, which didn't really work, I got pretty thoroughly soaked. But it was nice out. The last fish was a 4.5 lb smallmouth that jumped 3 times trying to shake the hook. I released it too. It was nice to be able to go up to the house and get dry right away and not have fish to clean. Weird to see only one boat go by on a Sunday, and I swear it was the same boat going upriver in the am and down river around 9:00. I guess y'all are fishing where you launch. All in all a fun morning on SML. I'm lucky to live here.

Great to see you reporting again and out on the water! And any tug on the line is a good one. I think most folks are fishing the upper ends of the lake - though that's not necessarily the best decision I didn't fish this AM but kept looking out at the overcast and light drizzle skies and thinking it was a mistake. I went down and cleaned up the boat instead.....

2 oars and a trash can, sounds like you had a good breakfast. ?Mine usually consists of unsweetened tea ?. I might need to add a chocolate chip cookie. It was good to read your report and you had fish in the boat. Hopefully you were able to get out after the rain.

4 or 5 hours in that boat is all these old bones can handle. Iced Tea for breakfast this time of year? Gnarly.
