Some guys on Facebook were saying that AEP is replacing a turbine and that is why the lake is so low. Has anybody else heard about this?

Lady at AEP I talked to said it was due to below normal inflows and nothing else. Of course, she could be full of it but her graphs seemed to show that as well.

Anyone try the new ramp at Hales Ford bridge with this low water?
I want to go fishing this weekend, but I know I can't launch at the State Park with it below 792. I had a lot of trouble at the old Hales Ford ramp when it was this low, but could manage because I could back off the end of the ramp since there is no curb like at the state park.

I launched there three days ago on Sunday. With the new ramp extension, I had no problem at all. At the end of the ramp there is still 3.5 feet of water.

Nice! They must have dredged it too.

I launched there a couple of weekends ago and had to use lader at the end of the "dock" to climb down to my boat but had no issues getting out of the cove.

If we have a dry winter, can't imagine how bad it could get. cbc66

AEP is deff doing something. The other weekend I was at a waterfront property finishing up a tree job and the water had dropped 7" from lunch time till quitting time. that's a lot of water to drop in such a short time. Only reason why I noticed was at the end of the day I looked down at the water and saw a log and thought great one of the logs rolled down the hill when I wasnt looking. walked down and nope it was a tree that was previously submerged that was now poking out of the water. And the stump next to it was now completely exposed where it wasnt before hand. But hey it can only go down but so far right? the turbine inlets aren't on the bottom of the damn are they?

Looking back on www.smithmountainlakelevel.com/ selecting 2007 to present it looks like 2008 was a little lower than it is now. I don't think we will see anything close to normal before spring...

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...... or rain, or drizzle, or monsoon, or hurricane - heck, I'll take a wet fog right about now....

Seems like I can remember a couple of time its been lower that it is now, 2008 was low, I had to put in at Hardy because there was no water at Moormans, years before that it went down and stayed down till the next spring, I know you could walk up the shoreline and fiind a bucket full of lures.

Found this on the Smith Mountain Lake Association site....
If true, and if we don't get some serious rain, it's looking like a tough winter....

I want to know the reason for the sudden drop today. Surely it's not a sudden need for energy.
