Went fishing today and had a ball learning the ropes of planer boarding for striper. The search for bait began about 730am. My first throw of the net got me 2 mongos and a small striper. The bigger baits were tough, got six to start and a few dollar bill size and some med. ales and larger peanuts. I marked scattered fish but could not get bite until 1130 both coming on floats. I stayed in the area a while because fish were there and got a 25 and 30 incher. Had some planer action with the bait coming to the surface like it was being chased. Later in the afternoon I moved to another spot marking more fish and had a planer crushed hard by a 29 inch fish and a 24 inch on a float. I ran to look for some more large bait and was rewarded on my first throw with 10 good sized Gizzards 10 to 11 inches. Went back to last place the fish were at and put out four planers and one float. The next board that hooked up felt like a better class of fish , because it pulled harder and longer than the others. As I got the planer up to the swivel the fish made another run.... hooks popped out of the water, Dang-it. But all is not lost .... as I was baiting back up the float line rod loaded up and another fish on.. 28 incher. Very soon after another planer went back, that dude ran threw three of the other lines and made a mess. I hated it but the last fish got gut hooked by a 7/0 circle gam., so I had to keep it. Today I also got to meet Yam and Prime-time, both fine fellows in my book. I really enjoyed the day!

Thanks KB , I really enjoyed myself. Those leaves and sticks were a pain though. Got to see some turkey fly down off the roost too.

I agree Yam , clean water would be nice. I may have gotten more action if not for the trash. Several of my large baits disappeared while pulling boards in that stuff. I am not sure if the trash knocked them off or a fish did. With the collection of leaves and sticks that would accumulate it was hard to tell.

I heard report of a Striped Yam pulling leaf blobs down the lake yesterday...... You heard correctly! There was one point where I was pulling two pieces of lumber as well, one with nails in it.
