Put in at rock house at day break. Caught some 7in to 10in shad in 16ft of water right outside no wake buoys, water temp 64 not sure of air temp. Started to pull 4 planers and 1 free line in peaks creek, no takers. Packed up and moved up lake to clapboard. Pulled 4 planers and one free line into the mouth of clapboard shad were nervous but no takers. About 100 yards in i heard a fish bust, turned around and looked were i had just came through and the water was alive. Time was 8:45am stripers were everywhere. Turned the boat around and started back. Picked up a rod that was rigged with a fluke and began to throw. As im alone on the bow of the boat working the fluke back, the bank board goes down drag pulling off of reel. Just as i reach it the rod goes straight and the board surfaces. RE bait and as i am letting line out thumbing the spool i check to see how fast im going because the line is leaving the reel fast, duh it comes to me fish on.... I get to feel the fight for a minute and all goes slack, fish off. Pull out of the mouth and no action, turn and start back in with a few shad jumping for there life or as i like to call it (shadtactics) . No takers ended up getting skunked... How i never hooked one on the fluke ill never no. But then again iv never caught anything on one. LOL ANY pointers on how to do them would be great. All in all it was a great day packed up at noon and headed home. 14 more days and ill get to fish a real lake SML see you then.

rig the fluke on a bass worm hook,,,throw it weightless,,,it will still sink slowly and the busting striper thinks its the shad he's after and will gulp it down....keep a 1/4 oz weighted one handy also.....sometimes hard to catch busting fish for they know what they want,,the weight-less trick works for me and also on those early morning swirls that appear to be nothing...GOOD lUCK
