On my boat I have a 4" Faria tachometer. It works but is sticking at the low end. I can tap on it and it will work right for a while. Does anyone know if it can be lubricated some way? If so, how would you do it? Any help is appreciated.

Is it electrical or mechanical? How old is it and what model?
Some mechanical cables need to be lubed from time to time. We used a graphite lube for the speedometer and tach driven cables.
Also is it possible the needle is rubbing against the glass face?

Thanks for responding. It is electrical. It is about 4 years old. Don't see anything on it that tells what model it would be. It appears to be the standard white face 4" electrical Faria tach that you see in the Overton catalog or most any marine catalog. The needle appears to be free the best I can tell. I thought about spraying a little wd 40 or something in it to free it up but I thought there might be another idea.

Since it is electrical, there should be a circuit board inside that drives the tach. It could be that one of the electrical components has gone bad or is marginal. Capacitors are usually the components that fail. Here is a trouble shooting guide by Faria. faria-instruments.com/site_manuals/IS0100_Tachometers.pdf
