Saturday 8/29
My better half and I hit the water around 6:30 am. These cool mornings sure do feel nice. We started out pulling a couple of u-rigs
on the BW side. Never really saw many fish and little bait. I guess the fish were hunkered down in the trees some where. We headed
up toward Gills and around that area with the same outcome. So around mid morning we made a move to the Roanoke side checking
creeks mouths, points and over main channel timber along the way. Finally we found some fish above the bridge. I turned the screen
of the hummingbird towards my girlfriend to show her and said, we are going to hookup. I gave the boat a little wiggle an throttle to
give more action to the baits. And both bait clickers began to sing......I think I impress her when I do that. So I put the boat in
neutral as we brought them in, a 25 and 26 inchers. After the release I looked up and two other boats had spotted us catch them and
were jigging in front of my bow. The fish were still under us so I dropped a spoon down to them and hooked up, gave it to my girl to
play while I got another rod out. After I released the fish she brought in, she hooked one by herself. That was her first while jigging.
I hated the line broke as it got close under the boat, must have been a weak spot. The fish had scattered some so we untangled the u-rigs
and dropped them back out and caught three more and had two more on that came off, time to sharpen some hooks. After the action
slowed some we heard a horn blow on the bridge and looked up to see Gator going across. He was on a parts run and lost a day on the lake.
We had got hungry and the water rougher, so we headed for the ramp. By the way we released all fish.
Sunday 8/30
A buddy of mine and I got together at 8:00 am. He had told me he wanted to try some jigging. So we looked around close to humps. etc.
While looking around I saw SeaJay and thought I would stop to say hi. I like that fishing machine you have and it was nice meeting you.
All we spotted were some small pods over the trees. I suggested that we pull u-rigs while we looked. And not long after we put them out
we caught a couple a 25 and 27 incher. My bud wanted some striper fillets so in the cooler with them. What fish we were seeing seemed to
getting deeper into the trees. We decided to get the jigging poles out and had a few lookers with no action. Finally he hooked up on a light
spinning rod and reel. I told him it looked a little small for stripers. He said he enjoyed a good tug. When the fish headed down he tightened
the drag all way and it still peeled line off. He ended up loosing it when it straightened his jig enough to get off. Jig was to small too. I tried to
tell him. LOL Things got slow and we put the rigs out again and caught a 22 incher and called it a day.
