Saturday 8/22
Water temp 82 , down rods 2 oz egg sinkers , bait at 40 ft
Jumped on the boat at 5:00 am and spent 45 minutes catching bait. Mostly small ales and gizzards with a few nice size ales mixed in. Picked my buddy Don up over at Bernard's at 6:00 and then ran over to parkway to pick up Sue reel and another buddy. Wasn't sure if we should head up Roanoke side or blackwater side. Sue reel had talked to a friend who had caught several fish the morning before jigging on lower blackwater so we headed that away . We went in search mode just checking different spots for fish.
We had only seen a few single fish here and there. Saw my buddy Mark fishing on the other side of the lake so I called him to see if he was on anything and what do you know he had the fish whisperer Mward on the boat with him jigging ! He said they were marking A few fish where he was at and to come on over. Got over there and started baiting up , Sue reel was putting the first rod down and it was slammed before it was even in the holder ! A little while later we had a nice school come under us ( my pic Mike posted earlier) and we managed to pull 5 out of it. What a blast! We finished the morning with 8 fish 22"-28" , 4 of which we kept.
Sunday 8/23
Water temp 82 , down rods 2 oz egg sinkers , bait at 40 ft
Sailor ( my dog ) and I hit the water at 5:15 am and even though I had bait left from the day before I decided to add a few more to the mix. Headed back to the same spot .
Started marking a few singles here and there so I set out my spread. Caught one pretty quick and released it. Little while later I had a nice school come by me and caught another one . Got back on it again and caught 3 more. I had a little crowd around me while that was going on , lol. Finished the morning with 5 fish all released. As I was packing it up I had seen a fellow in a key west with a cowboy hat on and figured it was Gator. I idled over to him and talked for a bit. Nice to meet you Gator. I am sure we will bump into each other on the dark side this fall.
