My wife and I came up Friday night to spend a couple of days of R&R. Some friends were suppose to come up also, but they bailed on us. I decided to hit the water on Sat. Morn. I had no problem getting bait Friday night. Headed up the lake about 6:30am in search of some breaking fish. I did not find any breaking fish, but headed to some water I have not fished this year. I came up on a school of fish in about 50 FOW. I set out planers using free lines and different weighted lines. I even had out a down line. Within 5 minutes of setting out, my planer board with 1/4 oz. weight fire off. This was a nice 28in fish I decided to keep. Just as I landed the fished. Here comes a boat and cuts me off. . So I decided to ease the boat around and come back again. As I was heading back, another weighted board gets hit. This one was an 18" fish with a lot of spunk. I put him back with no problem. As I come back through again, another 18" fish hits another weighted planer. I had a number of hits, but it seemed that all they were doing was just killing the bait. By 8:00am, all the fun was over. I fished and looked for another 1 1/2 but only had strikes, but no takers. I headed back to the house for some breakfast.
My wife and I decided to head out after lunch time with left over ales, but I was met by a fleet of PWC, boats pulling floats and sight seers. The water was so choppy that the water was coming out of the bait tank and it would have been trouble standing up. So we decided to just what everyone else was doing and ride around.
Sunday, my wife wanted to go out for another boat ride. I normally keep at least one pole with a jig and fluke on it. I figured the water would be rough again so I didn't bring one. After about a half an hour, we motored up a creek and guess what? On a small point just as we came up on it, fish started to break. My wife just laughed at me as I sat there almost in tears.
Nice weekend though.
Water temp. 82
Fished 6:30am to 10:00am
Overcast until 9:00am
No PWC until 9:30am
Total fish: (3) Kept one to eat. Others when back in with no problem.
