and boy do I need it. Just finished moving in to a new house and closing on are old one. I'm too old for this moving stuff . We "downsized" which included selling my boat, which in all honesty was not getting near enough use. Anyway, we rented a house up near the bridge and a boat from Halesford Harbor. Never fished that area before, so I was hoping to get some tips/hints on where to go. I cant imagine we will be venturing too far from the house in a pontoon, so hopefully there might be some stripers nearby. I did keep my bait tank, so hopefully I can keep some bait alive long enough to catch a striper or two. Thanks for any help. Rich

I'm not a "Roanoke Side" guy but I have been hitting that side a little bit and have been catching a few in that general area. Doesn't sound like you are going to be fishing with electronics. I would look for a parking lot full of boats and head that way. Or, you can always drag artificial baits until you find the fish. Enjoy your vacation!

Not sure how soon you vacation is, but if you point your rental pontoon and it's 50 hp motor downstream and let the wind & current help speed you along, you might just find yourself around a bunch of other boats before you get to the State Park......

Thanks gentlemen--- I did manage to keep my fish finder as well as the bait tank so I wont be fishing totally blind. Our vacation starts Sat, but will probably wait until Monday to do any serious fishing. I assume bait is found around lights at night this time of year? I will probably try to get bait in the mornings as I dont have much faith in keeping them alive overnight. Sounds like I should head south once I get out of the cove and keep one eye on the fish finder and the other for other boats. I managed to get all three generations of us on fish last year, so we are hoping for the same. Thanks again for all your help. I wonder if you can mount a sail on a pontoon?

Captain's Quarters light should be holding bait.

Captain's Quarters light should be holding bait. As will most any of the deeper water lights on the mid-lake and down portions of the lake.....

Captain's Quarters light should be holding bait. Not anymore bud. They'll be a line waiting to cast there now. Of course that is good keeping them up that way.

It's certainly no secret. A few summers ago it got so bad and folks where tying up to the dock and/or parking and walking through the slips into the floater and throwing nets that the dock owner called the Sherrif and they wrote tickets for trespassing for a number of folks - if I remember right a guide or two may have gotten one as well.......

I know, just messing with Gator. It got so bad there this spring I rolled in on the light at 3am, to beat the crowd, and two boats were already there. Lol

No need for a light, cast nets or bait tank this time of year. It'd take wharfrat all day to get over to the BW in that pontoon. LOL

I'll just hope that there is some bait nearby, if not I'll have to go with artificials, although Dad won't be happy. He loves to watch the floats/planers get a little twichy, even at 75, somehow he always seems to be the closest to whatever rod gets hit next and beats everyone to the fish .
