well, no stripers again today. i did have three good runs though. somehow i totally missed two of them. first fish in 15 ft of water, on a planer with a 8 ft light line. the second let go as soon i got the rod in my hands.it was on a float , 15 ft light line.i did hookup with the third one, felt like a fair sized fish. got him half way up and he came unbuttoned. that was on a down line, 30 foot of water, 24 foot down. did manage to channel cats earlier in a different area. water temp 71. wanted to stay till dark, but the dog looked as if she had enough. pulled in at the ramp and she made a b-line for the jeep, didnt even wait for me like she always does.i know i havent been much help for anyone, but its not because i am not tryin..

Nothing wrong with that report.
We all have days when more fish come unbuttoned than normal. Just curious, what type of hooks are you using on your planers and floats? Circle hooks are not my friend on planers and floats.

Leesville is a very hard lake to fish. And catching stripers on Leesville is harder still. So I think you had a pretty good day all considered. It took lot of skill to get three striper bites in one day on that lake. That's for sure!!!!! Great report. Thanks for sharing it with us.

i was using a live bait hook. not sure of the brand. i think they may have been a bit small. only a 2/0. for 6 in shad. what would ya suggest?

Just my opinion (hope everyone else chimes in) circle hooks are great on downlines but you will have a much better hook up with j hooks on your boards and floats. 2/0 is fine with 6 inch ales. Gizzards, 3/0 to 5/0 depending on the size of the bait. Not saying it's the best or right way, just what I have had better success with.

I use the Gamakatsu Octopus hooks for planers as Bigun describes and Gamataksu Octopus Circle hooks for downlines. Just have to remember to set the j/octopus hook and let the fish set the circle hook..... Hard to not grab that downrod before the fish sets it sometime. And with the larger gizzards on planers it seems to always be a balance of waiting long enough for the fish to have the bait but not waiting too long.....

thanks bigun, i ll try em. any thoughts on octopus hooks? I have to agree with Mward......as much as it hurts! Don't listen to Bigun, he's never caught an octopus in his life so his knowledge on octopus hooks would be just a guess but that sure won't stop him from telling you all about it! ;D

Even Loch ness has been spotted in Beaverdam, personally I think it was just Leo on one of his polar dips!
