Bedford County authorities are investigating a drowning in Huddleston.
Crews from SML Marine Fire and Rescue, Bedford County Sheriff’s Office, Bedford Medic and the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries responded to a call around 11 p.m. at the community docks on Lake Retreat Road in Huddleston, according to Tom Lovegrove, president of SML Marine Fire and Rescue.
Upon arrival, responders were told that a 17-year-old male had dived into the water but had not resurfaced, Lovegrove said.
Fireboat 11-8 searched the area around the docks. “The victim was located deceased in the water nearby,” Lovegrove said.
Because of the victim’s age, no further information was available at press time, Lovegrove said. The incident remains under investigation.
