Slipped out late (about 9:30 am) for a couple of hours looking for schooled fish. Plan was to jig them up using a variety of different lures.
Rode around checking "regular" spots on the Roanoke side which have been good in years past. No Luck. Moved down below the bridge and checked spots all the way to Bernard's Landing without success. Then I even rounded the corner up the Blackwater and ventured on the dark side as far as Gills Creek without any luck. Headed back to the Roanoke and decided to put out a couple of rods while looking. While in the main channel between the S curve and the bridge I caught four decent fish. All came in an hour and a half once I got rods in the water and started trolling. On one side of the boat I put out a three way rig on lead core line. The three-way rig included a large (3/4 ounce) bucktail (also used for power jigging when I can find a school of fish) and a silver Sutton spoon. Two fish caught on the three way rig and both came on the Sutton Spoon.
On the other side of the boat I put out a short arm umbrella rig on 65 lb. braid. Two stripers also came on the U-rig with white sassy shad and single trailing a lime green and white parachute jig with white curly tail trailer. Fish liked the parachute jig trailer. Never really saw a good school and only marked scattered fish. Not sure I saw any of the ones who hit the lures. Sometimes it really is better to be lucky than.....

Beware fishing around those STurns on weekends because the Crazies sometimes fly through there even though there is a speed limit. Pretty narrow there.

P.S. Hey ijenks if you want PM me and I can give you a few spots to try this time of year. Just remember keep what you catch regarding stripers because their mortality rate is claimed to be high when released back into the hot/warmer water.
