Haven't fished since late May, so I was itching to have a good couple of days and it turned out to be very enjoyable. Actually arrived 7/3 but had to hook up a new bait light before night/next morning. So I got set up to fish the morning of the 4th. Well the new night attracted plenty of bluegills but not ales or gizzards. So I went out in search of bait at other lights close by, and of course they weren't on. Patrolled a few coves in search of bait, nothing I could reach, turned out to be a sign as my bait pump crapped out on me Wednesday morning.
So out came the U-Rig. This was the story for the most of of my mornings and evenings as bait was holding over deep water. The 4th I caught 4 fish, that was my best day. Ended up catching 12 total for the boat over the 5 day period. My dad fished Sunday morning with me and he caught his first two stripers ever. We fished the main channel from R25 to R17 the Franklin side, most everything coming off points in about 18 FOW. I was dragging bottom plenty of times and fish were caught. And of course the lake caught me several times too. The morning of 7/8 I finally tried out my neighbors light since I knew they were gone, and one throw I had about a dozen 8-10" gizzards. So I finally got to pull some live bait on planers and freelines. But only I had one hook up on an outside board that went screaming, fought it for about a minute before the hook came out. Had plenty of swirls and chases but no eaters.
WTs were in the low 80's with ATs sometimes in mid 60's some mornings with fog and clouds. I had 5" green transparent swimbaits on the U-rig, used the pearl swimbaits one morning but the interest for them seemed to be less effective.
For you bass guys I caught my largest LMB on the corner of the dock next to me on a Strike King Gizzard Shad deep diving crankbait. He was a good fight.
For you bluegill guys my 10 yr old son took me down 6-3 in our Bluegill Challenge.
I will post pictures as soon as I get to my phone.
Thanks again for all your guys reports.
Everything was released back into the WILD!
