Unloaded the boat at Penhook Ramp about 7:15 am with only two empty trailers in the lot. Overcast most of the morning with a slight breeze and sprinkle once in a while. Water temp was 79.8 to 82. We searched around with the sonar marking very little . So we decided to just hit some points trolling an artificial spread for a start. Managed to pick up one pretty quick. Then after a time with no more results we made a move to where we caught some a few weeks ago. Turned out to be a good move as we picked up 4 more and a LMB. All were small 18-24". I also foul hooked a 8" ale in the head, so I just hooked it back through the nostril and let it back out. Had no takers though. Larger fish where you be ?? I tell you guys if I don't catch fish I complain. When I do catch fish I complain they aren't big enough. Ha! Human nature to want more I guess. Traffic starting picking up around 12:00 so we headed for the barn around 1:00. It was a nice day to fish .

Nice report! I prefer to catch the big ones when they have a good chance of surviving after they are released. Summer fishing ,for me, is a time to keep a few smaller fish for the grease. Gotta love those days when the ramp parking lot is empty.

x2 Gator. Summertime is for the dinks and sub 10 lbers that I'll put in the fryer or grill. Plenty of pigs to catch and release come October

I suppose I should alternate between Philpott walleyes and SML to give the stripers a break during the hot times. It's just not the same as the stripers power. Maybe even a trip to Lake Moomaw for some big trout. I've never fished there , but stopped by a ramp on a hunting trip to the Nat. Forest. Beautiful lake and surroundings.
