Ah Chit.... Lowrance has gone and done it now.... They just announced (well, actually have not quite announced yet here in the US but will later today), a line of touch-screen HDS units that integrate the StructureScan module into the unit (vs it being a separate black box). Three sizes - a 7, 9 and 12 - these are kind of wide-screen formats and the 12 is a monster.... I expect they are leveraging off the Simrad (sister company to Lowrance under Navico parent) NSS platforms. I'm curious as to how the touch-screen experience plays out - shad-slime and the screens would not seem to get along well over time....... Here is a good set of info on the units from a Lowrance dealer out of South Africa - he's got the jump on everyone due to timezones I guess - its technically not even announced on Lowrance's own web-site yet. www.thehulltruth.com/marine-electronics-forum/457309-hds-gen2-touch-first-impressions.htmlWill be interesting to see pricing....... An no - unfortunately I won't be seeing one of these on my boat any time soon.....

I used a Lowrance iWay 500 for double-duty on a Gold Wing and in my boat for a while... 2 trips to salt water killed the touchscreen which was supposed to be weatherproof (targeted towards motorcycles afterall)....
