Hi guys, Me and my buddy have fished many ponds and caught some decent fish. We decided we could go the lake and do the same thing. We were very wrong, after two trips we've landed two small largemouths.
Just was wondering if it was possible to bang the banks and catch some bass or do I need to fish more strategic spots? We aren't looking for big bass just trying to have fun and catch a few.
Any feedback is much appreciated.

I don't bass fish on SML but there are many on here that do. I would read the report section and gather as much info from there as I could. Maybe hit Captains Quarters at the bridge and pick their brain too. It's called fishing not catching. Tight lines

Learning a lakes seasonal patterns is very important. You have to know where the fish are before you can catch them. There is much much more water to cover in a lake than in a pond. This time of year the water is getting hot and the fish start moving deeper. I would suggest fishing a carolina rig on points from 12 to 18 ft of water. Keep a fishing journal to record your catches so you can try to replicate patterns during different seasons. Bait fish will also be key in locating bass. Good luck!

Thanks guys. I've been fishing around the state park and from 8-11 in the morning. I'll try to do some more research about patterns to make it a little easier.

Are you fishing from shore or from a boat? If your bank fishing I would try to fish near a main lake point with deeper water close by. That way you can cover more depths in the same area. Most bass have left the coves this time of year. Good luck!

I'm fishing from a boat. Thanks for all the responses. I'm going to do some research and try to find a free day to catch some. Again, appreciate all the help!
