Weather - The day began as overcast but quickly turned to partly cludy.
Water Temp - 76
Technique - 6 planers and 2 light lines.
SeaJay and I decided Saturday night about 10 pm to give it a shot this morning. I turned on my light and returned an hour or so later..........nothing, not a single bait. The Saturday before I did the same thing and in an hour and a single throw ended up culling about 100 baits and was left with about 2 dozen nice ales. I woke up at 3:30 remembering how surprised I was the week before when I went our at 6 am and it was light. I kept thinking I better go throw the net. I was glad I got up. This time number of ales were much better but they were not real large. I was able to add two nice gizzards. I threw again at 5:00 picking up a few more but by 5:45 the ales were gone.
We headed out just after 6 am without much of an idea which direction we were heading. We scouted the S turns down to Strawberry Banks marking a few fish but nothing that gave us enough confidence to throw out a spread. I had some pretty good luck last Sunday on the lower end of Blackwater so we headed that way and decided to go fishing. We were marking fish from the start, no great numbers but better than what we had seen earlier. In our second pass SeaJay had a board get slammed and immediately he said it was a largemouth. I watched him battle for a couple seconds and commented that it must be pretty nice fish if it's a largemouth. We were both right, a largemouth that was lost right at the boat and he was a nice one. We are guessing of course but we felt like he would probably have gone 6-7 lbs. Within a few minutes a board was hit on my side and we were able to get the skunk off the boat. It was a striper of 29 inches and 6 Lbs. SeaJay picked up another small striper that came unbuttoned right at the boat.
We headed a little further up BW again marking scattered fish and picked up two more largemouths.
We head back to B&B just to do a little scouting and found very little.
My wife always asks, why can't you just fish in our cove? So today, she texts me a picture of one of you guys reeling one in right in front of my dock.
It was good having SeaJay on the boat. We had talked about getting together. We didn't catch many fish but I had a good time and I learned some good stuff. I hope we can go again but I think we'll wait until these fish get schooled up a little better.
