I'm confused by fluorocarbon line. Theres 300 yards spools of fluero for $25 and then there's 30 yard spools of fluoro leader for $25 ( estimate numbers)....what's the deal? Is the leader much finer and more "invisible"? Every time I tie on 3' I think theres 2 bucks.... Is everybody using the high end stuff? is it worth it? i guess my primary question is what's the difference? The guys at bass pro have no idea! Lund, if you watch my underwater videos and care about your money, you should conclude that flourocarbon leaders are not necessary for stripers or bass. I'm quite sure my camera is not made of "invisi-black." We've All been had. With this being said, my natural instinct to resist change keeps me tying on some expensive sheeeit.

Hey lund, for many years I purchased the 30 yd spools of fluorocarbon leader for like 75.00, best on the market. Still lost many fish. But I used it because it was supposedly invisible to the fish. I switched to cheaper stuff once I retired and didn't notice a bit of difference. Now I'm using regular ole Stren original for my line and my leaders and have noticed no difference whatsoever. Granted I have downscaled pound test simply because the lake doesn't hold the monsters it used to hold. But think about this: the draw to fluorocarbon is because the fish can't see it. But yet these fish go after whatever the hell Yam is pulling with that damned camera swinging back and forth on a rope? If that camera doesn't spook them then regular fishing line certainly won't. BTW for those guys who say leader line is produced "special, to be tougher then other lines". Not so. TV show called "How it's Made" had an episode where line was being produced for saltwater fishing. Had 30lb test coming down an assembly line and one side did 25 yards spools of "leader line" and the same line went on to fill up 300 and 500 yard spools of "fishing line". Go figure. Save your money and don't worry about fluorocarbon, it's just another gimmick IMHO. If you buy it you probably should also get a box of Banjo minnows and helicopter lures. Yup! So now I can't understand the need for a leader? Just pinch on a split shot and a bead. Heck forget the bead! Fisher people of the world... The revolution has begun! You don't need any of that crap! Just a hook and a stopping device.

I remember the Haitians in Florida using a old coke bottle with mono wrapped around it and a hook and sinker at the inlets. They could toss that thing pretty far. They always seemed to catch fish too. Difference being, I was fishing for fun and they were fishing out of necessity.

Well that's good enough for me....no more pink stuff. Maybe I should start hooking a big fake camera on my flatlines and dragging it along....just watch....there will be guys dragging fake cameras all over the lake... Yam Patties!.....I want it....I want it!
Yam- think Roger Daltry (who?) singing ...." You can't have it!....I want it....I want it.
Jeez....I gotta do some fishing.

I'm not arguing that you need flourocarbon leaderfor stripers, you probably don't, but I'd like to see you try to spool a reel with Seagar Blue. You will very quickly back up on that "leader and line" come off the same spool nonsense. That might be true for whatever brand How It's Made fimed, but it's not even remotely accurate in general. As soon as you let go of the leader, it would explode off of the reel like a compressed spring. Freshwater striper fishermen do lots of silly things that are overkill... like using line capable of landing a marlin for wimpy little freshwater fish with no stamina.

Hey, I caught fish on that dag-on helicopter lure back in the day.
