Water was low and fish were slow. Fished lower lake and s-curves.Fished top water ,subsurface cranks and swimbaits.Caught 1 white peach on top water and partner lost 1 striper on vampire. Is Tha nite bite tapering off? Stripers did not come up real strong .Beautiful nite , enjoyed being out and thanked god I'm still able to do Tha things I love.

Lm recently but not much on the striper bite. I think its a combo of dropping water level and tapering off ale spawn

The night bite for the lower lake is probably slowing down, now that the spawn is winding down. I think the fish that were at the lower end are now, or soon will be, in what I call a "transition" period. This period is when alot of the Stripers that moved down lake for the spawn, are now heading back up the Blackwater and Roanoke river arms of the lake, to their normal stomping grounds. The Stripers can move a pretty good distance in a day, and are often scattered and not necessarily in large schools. They will still move in schools, but the schools are much smaller than before. These moving stripers will still feed at night, because that is their preferred feeding time, and will also feed just before daylight. The key to catching them at night, with artificials, is to find the shad when they are shallow on the banks or points. Keep your eyes and ears open. In many cases, the shad are shallow because the Stripers have chased them there. Anytime you see or hear shad, fish them, whether or not you see or hear Stripers with them. When feeding on shallow shad, stripers do not always suck them down from topwater, many will feed in a little deeper water (10-15 ft deep). If topwater lures are not being productive, switch over to a meduim running crankbait, or fluke or bucktail. These deeper running lures will often catch the fish, when the topwater stuff is not working. When I can't find shallow shad in a particular area, I start working points, both main channel and secondary. Actually most of my fish catching trips consist of mainly just concentrating on points. I have a bunch of points in each section of the lake I fish, and I just fish and hop from one to another. Eventually, I'll usually find the fish, and do some catching. If you fish a point, fish it throughly, at different depths, and changing angles. Also fish down the sides of each point (50 yards or so) as sometimes the fish will stage there waiting for shad to come up on the point. Sometimes you find Stripers on points, with no evidence of any shad being around. Another thing, I never leave shad to find other shad. If I find shad, I'm sticking with them. Sometimes the Stripers wont come up after a school of shad, but I won't leave one Striper feedbag, with hopes of finding another. Catching Stripers on artificials at night can be hard work sometimes, but if you do it enough, you will start to see patterns develop, and once the patters are learned, it can be a lot more fun, and a lot less work. When fishing a bright moon, fish the shadowed banks and points. Striper are low-light feeders, and a bright moon will keep them from coming up. I prefer to not even fish the bright moon nights.
